This project is a direct challenge to modern notions of beauty and how people are portrayed in the media and art.
“Flawlessness” is big business in the photography, modeling, and marketing worlds. Makeup and airbrushing hides natural lines, wrinkles, colors, textures, blemishes, spots, changes shapes and features and things that can occur naturally on every single human being. This obsession with so-called “perfection” is leading people to be dissatisfied with themselves for no good reason.
And look at who is frequently portrayed in the images fed to us. What color are they? What ethnicity? What gender? What sex? What ability? What age? What size? What shape? What class? What stereotypes? Why? What is the message behind these images?
I chose the term “uncensored” because what do all these expectations and representations do but censor and skew the way in which we view other people, ourselves, and ultimately a population?
I would like to have as many people as possible participate, from every group imaginable regardless of - well - anything. We are all different, we all have different experiences and views and appearances. And we all deserve to be represented.
I am simply the person behind a camera. This is a project by and for individuals.
Show your face, be seen, and represent.
